Royal Caribbean closes Frightening Bolt waterslide indefinitely

Royal Caribbean has closed its Frightening Bolt waterslide on both Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas pending an investigation after a passenger was injured last week.

A male passenger suffered lacerations to his legs and hands after a hole appeared in a glass portion of the waterslide on Icon of the Seas last Thursday (7 August).

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said: “The slide remained closed for the rest of the voyage while engineers assessed the damage,” Cruise Hive reports.

“The company has not provided a timeline for reopening and is investigating whether the failure was due to a manufacturing defect, installation issue, or an unexpected impact.”

Other water attractions and pools will remain open. The injured passenger is reportedly pursuing legal action.

A YouTube video, which was circulated online last week, shows water pouring from the hole to the deck below, soaking sun loungers below. Passengers can also be heard screaming and shouting in the video. Areas on decks 15 and 16 were closed following the incident.

Travel Gossip has approached Royal Caribbean for comment.
