Royal Caribbean has cancelled two planned calls at its private resort of Labadee this week.
Two ships have informed passengers they will skip calls at Labadee, the cruise line’s private beach resort in Haiti.
Passengers on Voyager of the Seas, which is currently sailing an Eastern Caribbean itinerary, and Oasis of the Seas, which left Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, say they have been informed in writing as well as by announcements on the ship.
One guest on Oasis of the Seas shared a letter with the cruise blog Royal Caribbean Blog that said: “As previously announced by our Captain, out of an abundance of caution, instead of visiting Labadee on Thursday, we’ll enjoy a beautiful day in Nassau, Bahamas, on Friday.”
The ship’s current itinerary included a day at Royal Caribbean’s private resort Perfect Day at CocoCay, followed by Falmouth in Jamaica. It is due to return to Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.
Royal Caribbean Blog reports Voyager of the Seas will sail to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic instead of Labadee.
Royal Caribbean hasn’t officially commented yet and it is unclear whether future sailings will also skip Labadee. Royal Caribbean Blog says one passenger posted on Reddit to say: “The captain just said that Royal Caribbean have cancel all stops to Haiti for the next month due to the ongoing situation which is rapidly escalating.”
Guests who purchased shore excursions in Labadee will be refunded to their SeaPass account as an onboard credit.
Royal Caribbean first cancelled calls to Labadee in March last year, ‘in an abundance of caution’ over concerns about growing unrest in Haiti. It then suspended all visits until October 2024.
Sister company Celebrity Cruises suspended calls to Labadee last month.
Travel Gossip has asked Royal Caribbean for a comment.
