Viking to restart Nile cruises next week

Viking is set to resume its Nile cruises on 12 March after temporarily pausing its programme in Egypt.

The river cruise line, which has 12 ships on the Nile, has decided to restart its programme because ‘the official travel advisories have now been clarified and the current advisory for Egypt remains the same as it was prior to the start of the recent conflict.’

“In consultation with our longtime ground operators in Egypt, we now expect to operate our Egypt voyages as planned beginning 12 March 2026. All impacted guests and their Travel Advisors will be contacted with additional information,” said a spokesperson for Viking.

Tauck has cancelled all March classic and small-group tour departures on its Jordan and Egypt, while AmaWaterways has suspended its Jordan land extension and Dubai programmes for its river cruises until the end of March.

The Globus family of brands, which includes Globus, Cosmos and Avalon Waterways and has one ship on the Nile, said: “Out of an abundance of caution and in alignment with guidance from global authorities and security partners, we have made the proactive decision to cancel March departures to Dubai, Qatar, Egypt and Jordan.”

AmaWaterways said it doesn’t plan to cancel its scheduled Nile voyages this month, saying: “Guests currently in destination have expressed a strong desire to continue their journey, and our March 5 and March 7 Nile River cruises will proceed as planned.”

The operator has, however, contacted customers and travel agents with March bookings to offer rebooking options on another 2026 itinerary without penalties.

Uniworld has said its ‘Splendours of Egypt & the Nile’ programme’ will ‘operate as usual’.

A spokesperson for Riviera Travel said that it currently has four tours/cruises ‘running as planned, with another tour/cruise set to depart later this month.’

“The FCDO continues to advise that it is safe to operate these holidays. We will continue to monitor and are in contact with our ground agents, but for now we continue as planned.”

APT said it will continue to operate all of its tours as planned and is contacting agents and passengers directly about any changes. APT’s Nile cruise programme begins in September.
