RIU Hotels & Resorts plans to reopen all seven of its hotels in Jamaica before the end of the year, following the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa, which hit the island last month.
The hotel chain said its reopening plans are accompanied by the return of charter flight operations, including TUI, which resumed some flights and holidays this week.
Riu Ocho Rios, located in one of the areas least affected by the storm, has remained open and all services have recovered. Riu Montego Bay reopened on 23 November and Riu Palace Jamaica resumed operations yesterday (24 November).
The four remaining properties – Riu Reggae, Riu Negril, Riu Palace Tropical Bay, and Riu Palace Aquarelle – are scheduled to open between 30 November and 15 December.
The company has given US$1 million in aid, including $570,000 towards rebuilding employees’ homes and $230,000 for basic aid packages. Additionally, it has enabled an interest-free credit line of $1.3m for damages.
