The P&O Cruises ship Britannia has diverted to its homeport in Barbados following a power outage during its current 14-night cruise.
Passengers told the publication Cruise Hive that Britannia suffered a power outage in Curaçao, when lights went out before backup systems restored electricity about 30 minutes later.
Britannia departed Bridgetown, Barbados, on 26 December 2025 for a 14-night ‘New Year in the Caribbean Islands’ itinerary, calling at Grenada on 28 December and Curaçao on 30 December before the power failure occurred.
The ship then skipped a planned call in Aruba and, on 3 January, passengers were informed Britannia would bypass St Lucia, where it had been scheduled to spend two days, and instead sail directly to Barbados.
P&O Cruises said on Monday (5 December) repairs were nearing completion and sailing would resume that evening.
A spokesperson told Travel Gossip: “We can confirm that there was a slight change to Britannia’s itinerary due to a technical issue which required land-based support and so the ship berthed in Barbados. Now rectified, Britannia is in Martinique today and St Maarten tomorrow as scheduled. The guests were regularly updated and we apologise for the alteration.”
Yesterday, Travel Gossip reported that passengers flying to join P&O Cruises Arvia in Barbados at the weekend were disrupted following air space closure as a result of the US military air strikes on Venezuela.
Three TUI Airways flights chartered by P&O Cruises for sailings on Arvia turned back mid-Atlantic on Saturday (3 January) following Caribbean air safety warnings.
