Operations resume at Glasgow Airport following runway closure

Operations at Glasgow Airport are back to normal following a 72-minute runway closure on Tuesday afternoon, which caused significant disruption and multiple flight diversions.

Thousands of passengers were affected after the runway was closed at around 3.48pm when a light aircraft, believed to be linked to Glasgow Flying Club, experienced difficulties landing on the runway.

Eight inbound flights were redirected to Edinburgh, around 42 miles away, while emergency services responded to the incident.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances to assist emergency services partners at the scene, and firefighters worked to make the area safe.”

The runway reopened at 5pm following inspections, and the airport said operations returned to normal shortly afterwards.

A Glasgow Airport spokesperson announced yesterday: “Operations have resumed following an earlier incident involving a light aircraft at 15:48 attended by emergency services.

“The airfield was reopened at 17:00 and operations returned to normal. We thank passengers for their patience during this incident.”

This morning, Glasgow Airport said operations are running without disruption.
