Norwich Airport is closed to air traffic during several windows today (3 September) as industrial action by air traffic controllers continues.
The airport will be shut between 6am-2pm; 4pm-4.45pm and 6.45pm-7.45pm, according to a statement on its website.
KLM has cancelled two flights to Amsterdam in response, while other departures likely to be impacted include TUI to Rhodes and Mahon, Menorca, Loganair to Aberdeen and Fly4 to Rhodes. Arrivals at rick include TUI flights from Mahon and London, KLM from Amsterdam and Loganair from Aberdeen.
Airlines have been informed of the closure, while passengers are being urged to check with their carrier before travelling to the airport.
The statement said: “Due to air traffic control staff sickness and ongoing industrial action which limits the flexibility to provide additional staff cover, Norwich Airport will be closed to air traffic on Thursday 3 September during the following periods: 0600 to 1400, 1600 to 1645 and 1845 to 1945.
“We apologise to passengers for the inconvenience this may cause.”
It follows a full 24-hour closure last Friday (28 August) – the start of the bank holiday weekend – after union Prospect rejected the airport’s latest pay offer.
Norwich Airport said staff had already received a 3.5% pay rise in April and had put forward a further 3% consolidated increase from July 2026 and another from 3% from April 2027. It described the package as a ‘substantial and responsible’ offer.
However, Prospect National Secretary David Avery said the offer was ‘nowhere near enough to address the long-term staffing problems at the airport’. The union is seeking a 10% pay rise.
