Norwegian Air adopts BA’s logo after losing World Cup wager

Norwegian Air honoured a social media bet and replaced its logo with the British Airways one on its Instagram page after England’s World Cup win over Norway at the weekend.

Ahead of Saturday’s quarter-final, Norwegian posted on Insta: “Hey British Airways, do you wanna make a bet?

“If Norway wins, you have to switch to our logo on Instagram on Sunday (one day). And vice versa. Deal?

BA replied: “Don’t make bets you can’t win.”

After England’s 2-1 victory on Saturday night, Norwegian Air honoured the bet, swapping in BA’s logo for the whole of Sunday and posting a congratulatory message thanking BA for the loan of it.

Other posts and reels included one of a member of Norwegian’s cabin crew drinking a cup of tea, with the message: “Well played, England. Fancy a trip to Norway?”

Writing under a post of BA’s logo, Norwegian Air said: “While the tournament is over for us, this friendly bet will forever live in all our hearts.

“We wish England and British Airways all the best in the semi-final, and we sincerely hope you’ll get to bring football home!”

Norwegian Air Communications Manager Content and Digital Eivind Hammer Myhre called the bet the airline’s ‘most successful social media happening’ and said BA had been a ‘great sport’.

He said: “The response has been absolutely massive. I estimate that more than 100 million people have been exposed to the story, and best of all we’ve had almost 100% positive feedback from all over the world.”
