Norwegian Cruise Line has cancelled its newest ship Norwegian Aqua’s first US port call, preview event and disembarkation in Boston because of extreme weather conditions.
Norwegian Aqua was scheduled to arrive in Boston on 4 April, after departing Southampton last Friday (28 March).
However, extreme weather conditions in the north Atlantic have altered its transatlantic crossing, with the ship taking a more southerly route straight to New York City.
The ship is now scheduled to arrive in New York City on 7 April, which is where guests will disembark.
The Boston preview was just one of several events planned for the new ship, with an official naming ceremony being held in Miami on 13 April by Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet, the ship’s godfather.
Norwegian Aqua is NCL’s 20th ship and the first of four planned Prima Plus class vessels.
It features the world’s first hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide, Aqua Slidecoaster, and also has a Glow Court, a digital sports complex with interactive LED floor that adapts depending on the game, plus an Aqua Game Zone.
The ship will homeport in Miami and Port Canaveral, as well as New York City, offering Bahamas, Caribbean and Bermuda itineraries until March 2027.
