Meet the…new Fred Holidays BDM and cake lover Rachel Wood

Rachel Wood, who has joined Fred. Holidays as Business Development Manager – Midlands, covering the north of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, talks about her favourite country, her biggest regret and her love of cakes in jars.

Born and brought up in…Stockport

Lives in… High Lane, a village close to Stockport and the Peak District.

I never travel without….something to read on the plane. That stems from a 10-hour flight to Mexico with no in-flight entertainment!

My go-to destination is…Canada. So many different experiences to have in one country – wilderness, great cities, abundant wildlife, cruising, skiing, rail travel. It really has it all for me.

My weakness is…cake! I may or may not be a top customer of a certain Lancashire bakery that sends cake jars by post!

The next place I’ll visit is…hopefully New York. I’d like to take my kids there as a post-exams treat.

My mantra is…have fun, work hard, be nice.

The three things I’d take to a desert island are…suncream, a hammock and a pina colada!

My proudest moment was…watching my 13-year-old son win a local cricket tournament for his team by bowling out the opposition’s last (adult) batter. The whole crowd went wild!

My biggest regret…giving up playing the piano. I got to Grade five when I was younger and really wish now that I’d carried on.

The most famous person I’ve met was… newsreader Sir Trevor Macdonald. He was the keynote speaker at a conference I helped to organise.

When I was younger, I wanted to be… a journalist. Watch out Travel Gossip if ever I get that bug again!
