Meet the… Journey Beyond Business Development Executive Nikki Metcalfe

Nikki Metcalfe has joined Journey Beyond as Business Development Executive for the UK and Europe. Travel Gossip found out a bit more about her…

I never travel without… a physical book – then you can be delayed or run out of battery and still immerse yourself in a new world.

The famous person (dead or alive) I’d most like to sit next to on a plane is… Michael Palin. He is hilarious and exceptionally well travelled! What an icon!

If I had a tattoo, it would be... Ivy for my Grandmother, I already have Strawberries for one Grandmother and my wedding flowers (Thai Orchids).

The next place I’ll visit is… Ontario. My wife and I are heading off on a campervan trip… She is the driver and I take on the role of navigator.

The last place I visited was… Copenhagen. An enjoyable addition to the recent Australia On Tour Roadshow. What a delightful city!

My most memorable travel experience was… my wedding at the Katathani in Phuket. We had 60 of our closest friends and family descend on Thailand and it was incredible!

The worst thing I ate or drank abroad was… sheep’s intestines in Purmamarca in Argentina, or stinky tofu in Taiwan. Both are unpleasant.

My bucket-list destination is… Galapagos. I need to cruise around, immersing myself in Darwinism and saying WOW and researching everything.

The best piece of advice I’ve been given is… “Let them.” The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins is an incredible tool to reduce anxiety and take control of your own mindset.

If I could eat one thing/meal for the rest of my life it would be… my mum’s Lemon Meringue pie… washed down with a glass of Champagne.

The thing I miss most while travelling is… my dogs, Audrey and Edie, hands down. (Both French bulldogs).

When I left school, I wanted to be… in Australia, so I went. And working in travel, so I did that too.

The thing I’m most proud of is… taking the leap into the unknown after 22 years at my previous company [Flight Centre].

In my new role, I’ll be… ensuring every travel agent in the UK is equipped to sell Journey Beyond’s amazing products – either directly or with one of our amazing partners through training and meaningful engagement. Our experiential products should be in every single customer’s itinerary if they are travelling to Australia.

What attracted me to the job was… the culture, the products, the people. I am so proud every day to say I work for Journey Beyond.

Outside work, you’ll usually find me… walking the dogs, or at spin, or drinking a glass of something lovely with a good book.

The first thing I notice about a person when I meet them is… their vibe.

If I won the Lottery tomorrow, I would… take all my friends and family on a big holiday to celebrate!
