London Luton Airport has been given the go-ahead for a new passenger terminal and taxiways.
The expansion will see it increase its passenger capacity from 18 million to 32m by 2043.
The government has approved the plans, despite a recommendation from the Planning Inspectorate that they were rejected over environmental concerns.
Luton Rising, the airport’s owners, said the expansion could bring ‘significant economic, employment and social benefits’ to the town.
Luton is the UK’s fifth busiest airport, carrying 16.9 million people travelling on 132,000 flights last year.
News of its expansion comes just two days after Jet2 launched its first-ever flights from Luton, it’s 13 UK base.
