Kuoni enters consultation period with staff as it closes John Lewis concessions

Kuoni has entered into a collective consultation period with staff as part of a strategic review of the business, which includes ending its 14-year partnership with John Lewis.

A spokesperson said some roles ‘will be at risk of redundancy’ while its aim is to ‘retain as many staff as possible’.

Managing Director Mark Duguid (pictured) has advised all staff of the company-wide consultation.

“These are never decisions we take lightly, we have a brilliant, talented team and we will take the time to talk through our proposals,” he said in a statement.

“Our focus remains on creating amazing, tailor-made holidays around the world and looking after our customers from beginning to end.”

Kuoni has already confirmed it is closing all nine of its John Lewis concessions and its one pop-up shop at the end of September as part of the strategic review.

Existing bookings via John Lewis shops will be handled by the Kuoni team and affected staff will be found new roles within the business ‘wherever possible’, added Mark.

“We’re proud of what we’ve achieved with John Lewis and the amazing worldwide experiences we have helped our customers enjoy. For our customers, there is no impact at all, they will continue to be looked after by our well-travelled team of experts and we’re managing a smooth handover,” he said.

“Our priority now is supporting our teams to find alternative roles and continuing to provide unforgettable holidays for our customers, who will continue to benefit from all the expertise we have.”

Kuoni said it is increasing investment in its call centres, digital channels, its own network of stand-alone stores, which currently stands at 14, and travel agent partnerships.
