Jet2holidays cancels arrivals at three Lanzarote hotels

Jet2holidays has cancelled arrivals at three hotels affected by the weekend’s floods in Lanzarote.

The operator said it has cancelled all arrivals to BlueBay Lanzarote and Sands Beach Resort up to and including today, Tuesday 15 April, and all arrivals to Paradisus by Melia Salinas up to and including Saturday 19 April.

Customers who were already staying at the affected hotels have been moved to alternative properties.

Jet2holidays is reviewing the situation for the three properties up to and including Sunday 20 April and has told customers: “If your booking falls within this window and is affected, a member of our team will reach out to you in order of departure date to discuss your options.”

A Jet2holidays spokesperson said: “Due to the severe weather conditions that have affected parts of Lanzarote, a small number of hotels have contacted us to let us know that they are temporarily unable to accept arrivals due to the impact of the adverse conditions.

“As always, we have been making decisions with the best interests of our customers in mind, and we have contacted affected customers to let them know their options. Our flights programme is continuing to operate as normal.”

The spokesperson added affected customers can amend their booking to an alternative holiday or cancel with a full refund.

Yesterday, TUI told Travel Gossip it had cancelled holidays on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 April at hotels affected by the floods. These hotels are the TUI SUNEO El Trebol, HD Beach Hotel and Paradius by Melia Salinas.

According to Radio TV Gran Canaria, more than 1,500 tourists were relocated following the floods, caused by torrential rain, which hit the east coast of the island.

The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) issued an update on Sunday afternoon to say some hotels were without power, some roads were affected by mud and services across the island had been affected.

It added British holidaymakers in Lanzarote should ‘follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor local weather updates’.
