Jet2 issues warning to passengers travelling to France and Italy

Jet2 is warning that industrial action in Europe could disrupt travel today (2 October) and tomorrow (3 October).

Air traffic controllers are supporting nationwide action throughout today against austerity measures and pension reforms, while a national public transport strike in Italy will disrupt train services from this evening.

Jet2 said the industrial action in France ‘may cause delays to flights travelling through French airspace’.

In a message to its customers, the airline said: “We will be working hard to ensure that the impact on our flights is minimal, however, you may encounter some disruption if you are travelling during this time.” The airline warned of ‘possible longer than normal waits’ onboard its aircraft before departure.

The strike in Italy will affect trains operated by Trenitalia, Italo and Trenord from 9pm local time today for 24 hours. Jet2 is encouraging passengers who are using public transport to allow extra time to travel to the airport. It told customers: “If you have a Jet2holidays transfer, these may be amended and communicated with you.”

Further strike action is set to take place in France between 7-9 October, with Ryanair Boss Michael O’Leary warning that 100,000 passengers could face disruption next week.

Members of the SNCTA union, which represents 70% of air traffic control workers, are planning a strike in a dispute over pay and working conditions.
