Globus National Key Account Manager Jayne Lambert and TTC Area Sales Manager Donna Nelson have signed up for a gruelling HYROX sports challenge to raise money for children’s charity Reuben’s Retreat.
They’ll have to row 1,000 metres, ski 1,000m, do a 50m sled push, a 50m sled pull, 80 burpees, 200m farmer’s carry, 100 sandbag lunges and 100 squat wall balls – and do eight 1km runs.
The doubles competition takes place in Verona in Italy on 5 December.
Jayne told Travel Gossip: “I’ve been wanting to do a HYROX for a year, but every time I’ve tried to buy the tickets, they’ve been completely sold out.
“Then, I went on the other week and saw that Verona had space available for the women’s doubles, so I thought, who in the industry do I know that also works out like I do and would do it with me?”
Jayne (pictured above, right) messaged Donna (pictured above, left) straight away, and she immediately agreed to do the challenge.
After signing up in August, Jayne and Donna chose to raise money for Reuben’s Retreat because the charity is one of the ‘nicest causes’ and well-known within the travel industry.
“When you hear all the work that they do, you just think: ‘Oh my God, how can they support these children and their lives’, it’s just amazing,” said Jayne.
The pair who are funding their own flights and tickets have already started training for the fitness competition, which will see them split the eight exercises between them.
Jayne said: “We live about half an hour away from each other, so we’re going to do a couple of HYROX training sessions together.”
When they’re not training together, they will be working out four to five times per week separately and will keep each other focused by exchanging text messages.
In a post on their fundraising page, they said: “As two women working in the travel industry, we’re used to going the distance, but this challenge will push us outside our comfort zones and demand every ounce of determination.
“We’re racing not just for ourselves, but to help raise vital funds for the incredible work Reuben’s Retreat does in supporting families who face unimaginable heartbreak. Their mission to offer comfort, counselling, and respite in a safe, nurturing environment truly inspires us.”
This will be Jayne’s third extreme charity challenge and Donna’s first. Jayne ran the London Marathon 10 years ago for the Family Holiday Association and raised £3,500 for a children’s charity that helps to care for premature babies when she completed the Travel Trade Crusade last year.
