Hurricane Erin is continuing to force several cruise lines to divert ships to avoid its path.
The category three storm has winds of up to 115mph and is located about 675 miles southwest of Bermuda, according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).
While Erin is not expected to make landfall, it is a large storm and is forcing cruise lines to alter their itineraries.
Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas cancelled an overnight call in Bermuda yesterday (18 August) and stopped overnight in Halifax instead. Cruise Hive reported that guests were given $150-400 of onboard credit as compensation for the change.
Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Jewel left Bermuda a day earlier than planned yesterday to head back to Boston for Friday (22 August).
Erin had already disrupted Carnival Sunshine’s call in Bermuda this week, while Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas diverted to Port Canaveral.
Yesterday the NHC warned that Erin could bring life-threatening surf and rip currents to the US east coast this week.
A tropical storm warning is still in place for Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeast Bahamas.
