Lanzarote is continuing its clean-up operation following severe flooding that hit the Canary island earlier this month, according to local reports.
The worst hit areas of Lanzarote were Costa Teguise, where several hotels were forced to close, and Arrecife, both on the west coast. Some holidays had to be cancelled as a result.
While tourism on the island has largely returned to normal, streets in some areas are still coated in dust and the sea water is discoloured on some beaches in the west.
The adult-only Paradisus by Meliá Salinas Lanzarote, whose guests were quickly evacuated to other properties during the floods, was due to reopen on 23 April, but a message on its website states it will remain closed till 1 June.
The flash floods on 12 April occurred after a year’s worth of rain was dumped on the west coast of the island in just two hours.
