Heathrow Airport recorded more than 6.2 million passengers in March, down 7.5% on the previous year.
The airport said a later Easter, the timing of Ramadan – which ran throughout most of the month – and its forced closure on 21 March because of a power supply failure caused by fire at a nearby substation, were all factors in the drop in numbers.
Between January and March 2025, the airport recorded 18.24m passengers, down 1.5% year-on-year. However, passenger numbers increased 3.5% for the year April 2024 to March 2025.
CEO Thomas Woldbye said: “We are still on track to see another record year in 2025 and colleagues are working hard preparing for a busy Easter and May Bank Holiday getaway.”
