Hays Travel Glasgow has reopened following a blaze that forced it to close for months – and found a backlog of loyal customers still waiting to book.
Branch Manager Ricky Doyle said he has ‘customers who are dying to get away’ but they’ve waited for his shop on Gorden Street to reopen.
“We’ve got a huge bank of repeat customers, and they’ve been keeping in touch with us through Facebook, with some of them even venturing out to some of the branches we were being hosted in to keep in touch with the team,” he said.
Hays was one of two agencies forced to close following a fire at Union Corner on 8 March. Barrhead Travel was also impacted, but it has also reopened.
“We never anticipated being closed for so long,” added Ricky. “We were hoping week-on-week, and then it became month-on-month.” He was only informed a week ago that the pedestrian part of Gordon Street would reopen, allowing access back into the branch on Thursday (28 May).
Ricky said his team has ‘pulled together amazingly’ to get the shop ‘cleaned from top to bottom’ and open to customers again. He added that the response to the reopening has been ‘really exciting’.
“The calls and messages we’ve received are so lovely. We are now inviting all these customers in to try and get the best value for these late deals,” he added.
