Hampshire agency ceases trading following owner’s death

Two-branch Hampshire agency New Era Travel has ceased trading and is going into liquidation.

The two shops, in Alresford and Wickham, were set up by well-known and respected agent Alan Godfrey, who died suddenly in February this year, aged 56.

Customers have been told package holiday bookings are safe, but all coach day trips organised by the agency have been cancelled.

A message on the door of the Alresford shop says: “With deep regret, we must inform you that New Era Travel has ceased trading and is in the process of liquidation. We want to express our sincerest gratitude to every customer who has supported us over the years. It has been a privilege helping you plan your adventure.

“We are pleased to confirm that all ABTA-protected travel bookings (packages, flights, cruises and holidays) will proceed as planned.”

New Era Travel had been a licensee of Fred. Olsen Travel.

Fred. Olsen Travel Director of Retail Paul Hardwick said: “New Era Travel were a licensee agent of Fred. Olsen Travel and we were deeply saddened to see them close their two branches and business.

“As licence holder of the ABTA number New Era used, all monies were paid through Fred. Olsen Travel as per our licensee agreements.

“We have already written to all impacted customers and suppliers with affected forward holidays or cruises to advise their holiday and money is still safe and protected and will now be administered and managed by one of the Fred. Olsen Travel branches.”
