Heavy rain has caused flash flooding on islands in the Aegean Sea, including Mykonos, Paros and Kos.
The downpour hit Paros on Monday evening (March 31), leaving authorities struggling to remove vehicles from the water.
The island’s mayor, Costas Bizas, told public broadcaster ERT: “Roads have been damaged and we need help with more machines so that we can clear the streets. All this catastrophe happened in two hours.”
No injuries or fatalities have been reported, although residents on the island have been urged to avoid travelling.
Schools have been forced to close on Paros, Syros, Symi, Kalymnos and Kos.
According to local media, the flooding on Mykonos was less intense, but excavators had to be used to clear a path for the flood water.
The floods have occured just days after customers booked on Marella Discovery 2 cruises throughout April were informed stops in Santorini would be diverted to Mykonos, following a long-period of seismic activity in Santorini in January and February.
The ship is due to call at Mykonos instead of Santorini on 12 and 27 April.
