London Gatwick Airport has issued a statement to say it is operating as normal today following a water outage on Sunday.
Both terminals at the airport lost running water for five hours yesterday after a power failure at a local treatment works.
Most bars and restaurants were shut and queues built up outside toilets on one of the airport’s busiest days of the year.
SES Water, which supplies the airport, said complications caused by a power outage at Bough Beech treatment works meant some customers in the area had experienced low water pressure or a temporary loss of supply.
Gatwick handed out bottles of water to customers, but some took to social media to complain there was nowhere to sit as many bars and restaurants closed during the outage.
However, the airport said water had returned to the ‘vast majority of the London Gatwick campus’ by Sunday night.
A Gatwick spokesperson told Travel Gossip today: “Following an issue yesterday (Sunday 26 July) at the Bough Beech Water Treatment Works which impacted the local area, we are pleased to report that the water supply has fully returned to the airport. All toilet facilities are open – as well as food and beverage outlets – and the airport is operating as normal.”
