Manchester and Bristol airports were forced to temporarily suspend flights again this morning following further heavy snowfall.
The closure of Manchester’s runway in the early hours of this morning led to multiple flight diversions and cancellations.
At least six arriving flights were diverted, including a TUI flight from Hurghada, which landed at Birmingham instead, an easyJet flight from Reykjavik which landed in Edinburgh instead, and Ryanair flights from Palma and Alicante, diverted to London Stansted, Paphos, which was diverted to East Midlands and Gdansk, which was diverted to Glasgow Prestwick.
Manchester Airport had reopened its runway by 5am, but it posted a message at 9.30am to warn of continued delays and advising passengers to check for latest updates with their airlines.
Bristol Airport was also forced to suspend flights for about 90 minutes until about 8am this norning while the runway was cleared of snow.
It was the second time in three days that the airport was forced to temporarily halt flights due to the weather.
Th runway closure forced the diversion of at least one flight, Ryanair’s service from Kaunas, which landed instead at London Stansted.
As it announced the reopening of its runway on X, Bristol advised departing passengers to check with their airlines for the latest information regarding their flights.
The Met Office has issued yellow snow and ice warnings for most of the southwest of England and Wales, parts of northwest England and west Midlands until 10am today, in parts of western and northern Scotland until midday, and in Northern Ireland until 11am.
