Jack Mason, the disgraced former Director of Baldwins Travel, has lost his appeal against a 22-month prison sentence for contempt of court.
Mason was handed the jail term in a hearing last October after he had been found guilty in July of moving business assets from his investment company Inc & Co offshore in breach of freezing orders granted to Barclays Bank.
The business assets included Baldwins Travel.
The freezing orders had been taken out by Barclays in 2021 to try to recover more than £13.7 million of borrowing by Inc&Co, which the bank alleged was unauthorised.
Last Friday, 14 March 2025, the civil division of the Court of Appeal rejected Mason’s appeal on three of four counts.
He was successful in appealing one count of the charges after the judges considered ‘procedural shortcomings’ by the Barclays legal team made elements of the case unfair.
His prison sentence remains since three of the charges were upheld, but he isn’t in jail because he left the UK before his committal hearing – and he didn’t turn up to court for the appeal either.
He is understood to be in Spain.
Mason was sentenced along with his colleagues Scott Dylan and Dave Antrobus. Only Dylan is serving his jail term, as Antrobus also failed to appear for the committal hearing and is understood to be in Ireland.
Dylan also appealed against his 22-month jail term in January 2025, but this was also rejected. He was the only one of the three to plead guilty to the offences, and, in sentencing last October, Justice Rajah said he was the ‘main implementer’ of the plan to transfer the assets.
At the time of the sentencing, Justice Rajah said all three would be entitled to unconditional release after 11 months of their sentences, and remission of up to 12 months in the full sentences may be applied in the event of the transfer of all the assets back to the jurisdiction of the Court.
ABTA terminated Baldwins Travel’s membership last month, citing a lack of financial information, but this was suspended pending an appeal.
In the meantime, Baldwins remains an ABTA member.
