Foreign Office warns of possible ‘severe travel disruption’ across Belgium

The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice to Belgium, due to planned further industrial following last week’s national strikes.

All Belgian airports were forced to close last Thursday due to the strike, which saw 60,000 protestors take to the streets.

Two railway unions, VSOA Spoor and OVS, have announced a nine-day strike, starting on Friday (21 February) and a general strike is planned ate the end of next of March.

The latest FCDO warning said: “Railway unions plan to strike from 21 February until 2 March. Eurostar services are expected to remain unaffected.

“Unions plan to hold nationwide strikes on the 13th of every month until further notice.

 ”A general strike is planned for 31 March and may cause severe travel disruption across the entire country.”

It advised travellers to monitor local news and check with their travel provider regarding potential delays.
