Travellers flying to and from Copenhagen Airport are facing long delays at passport control, according to an update from the Foreign Office.
Passengers arriving from and departing to non-Schengen destinations, including the UK, are being affected, it said.
Denmark is among 29 European countries that have introduced the European Entry/Exit System (EES).
Embassy staff are in contact with local authorities to help manage the pressure at the airport, added the Foreign Office in an update on Friday evening.
Travellers with accessibility requirements, those needing assistance (including passengers with very young children), or those with tight onward connections are being advised to make themselves known to airport staff wearing yellow vests, who are monitoring the queues.
The Foreign Office advised: “For travellers departing from Copenhagen to the UK and non-Schengen destinations, we recommend giving yourself extra time to allow for queues at passport control.”
A spokesperson for Copenhagen Airport said: “Copenhagen Airport is aware of the longer waiting times at passport control this weekend. Police Border Control staffing levels have not been sufficient to match the number of passengers.
“Copenhagen Airport is focused on ensuring a smooth passenger experience through the airport. We are in close dialogue with authorities and have asked them to ensure adequate staffing at passport control to reduce waiting times.”
Travellers have taken to social media to highlight the disruption. One passenger posted on Facebook on Saturday saying: “Horrendous queues for departures at Copenhagen Airport today, make sure you arrive early!”
On X, another traveller wrote: “What a joke 45 mins up to now and still not near passport control! You need to sort this if you want tourists,” while another replied: “Nothing on the App either. Security much improved but non-EU passport control is unacceptable.”
