The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) has updated its advice for Brits travelling to France during two separate days of action.
The first, on Wednesday (10 September), is part of the growing ‘Bloquons tout’, or ‘Let’s block everything’ nationwide demonstration against the Government’s proposed austerity plan, which threatens to bring France to a standstill.
The country’s transport sector is expected to be badly affected, with reduced timetables on rail services. Eurostar said it plans to run trains as normal.
Meanwhile, a 24-hour air traffic controller strike on Thursday 18 September is expected to be one of the biggest ATC walkouts in years. There are warnings it will affect not only flights to and from France, but also those crossing French airspace.
The FCDO said: “Calls for strikes and demonstrations across France on Wednesday 10 September and Thursday 18 September could make disruption more likely. Monitor local news and check with your travel provider regarding potential delays.”
