Travel alert issued for Portugal as storm brings heavy rain

The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice for Portugal, as heavy rain continues to batter parts of the country.

The FCDO warning said: ”Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong coastal winds are expected across the country until Sunday 15 February, with an increased risk of flash flooding, landslides and travel disruption.”

It has also advised travellers to follow the advice of local authorities and monitor weather updates on the European Meteorological Services website.

Spain and Portugal faced torrential rain and strong winds over the weekend with the arrival of Storm Marta. It follows the damage caused by Storm Kristin and Storm Leonardo last week.
