Foreign Office issues New Zealand travel warning

A tropical cyclone is expected to hit New Zealand’s North Island on Sunday, bringing the risk of flooding.

The Foreign Office said Cyclone Gabrielle could cause strong winds and heavy rain into next week.

Visitors are advised to track the latest forecasts from New Zealand MetService and follow the advice of the local authorities.

“Please check with your airline for the latest flight information,” said the Foreign Office.

A State of Emergency has already been declared in Auckland due to widespread flooding following unexpectedly heavy rain two weeks ago.
