Tenerife South Airport is operating normally after a private jet suffering technical problems blocked the runway for several hours on Thursday.
More than 20 incoming flights were diverted to Tenerife North, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote airports while the authorities attempted to move the private jet, which had reported technical issues shortly after landing.
Canarian Weekly reported: “Efforts to tow the jet away have been complicated by its position on the runway and the need for specialised equipment. The incident has rendered the runway unusable, effectively halting all take-offs and landings at Tenerife South Airport.”
Outbound flights were delayed and travellers at Tenerife South or other airports were left awaiting updates.
Air Traffic Controllers reported on X that the airport is now back to normal and the backlog of delayed flights have been resolved.
