Flights grounded at Washington airport

The Federal Aviation Administration has grounded flights at Reagan Washington National Airport following a reported threat against a United Airlines plane.

The FAA, the US equivalent of the Civil Aviation Authority in the UK, said operations were halted due to an unspecified security issue.

Flights were grounded shortly after 11.15am, local time.

Passengers on the threatened United flight disembarked and returned to the terminal.
