Hundreds of flights have been cancelled over the next 36 hours as Super Typhoon Ragasa moves across Asia.
The storm has already hit the Philippines with winds of up to 185kmph, and it is expected to reach Hong Kong this evening (Tuesday) local time.
The majority of flights at Hong Kong International Airport have been cancelled, including four departures to London Heathrow this evening with British Airways and Cathay Pacific.
Cathay Pacific has cancelled all flights arriving and departing from Hong Kong between 6pm tonight local time and 6am on Thursday (25 September).
The airline added that further flight delays and cancellations may be required depending on the typhoon’s path.
The Foreign Office has issued warnings for Hong Kong, the Philippines and China, warning of heavy rainfall, strong winds and possible flooding. Brits are being told to follow the advice of local authorities and check for messages from their travel providers.
In China, the typhoon is expected to impact Guangxi, Guangzhou, Fujian and Hainan in the south from Tuesday till Thursday. “There will likely be heavy rainfall causing disruption to services and possible flooding and landslides,” said the Foreign Office.
