Flights to and from Naples Airport have been cancelled or delayed due to a mechanical failure in the radar system.
Italy’s air traffic authority ENAV said: “Due to a mechanical failure in the radar system responsible for the approach area at Naples Capodichino Airport, the number of incoming flights has been temporarily reduced. This decision was taken purely as a precautionary measure and is aimed at maintaining safety standards.”
EasyJet was forced to cancel several flights from Naples to the UK today (Tuesday 10 June), including services to London Luton, Bristol and Manchester, with a service to Gatwick Airport also delayed by several hours.
Typically Holidays Managing Director Daniele Broccoli told Travel Gossip he had to contact customers on cancelled flights last night to reorganise transfers and flights and is expecting further disruption today.
It is not yet known whether the radar malfunction has been fixed, although flight delays and cancellations are still being reported on Flight Radar.
Services have also been delayed on other airlines by several hours, including British Airways and Jet2.
