The Foreign Office (FCDO) is warning of the risk of further flooding in the Rasuwa district of Nepal and the area close to the Tibet border following Wednesday’s devastating flash flood.
It said there is ‘widespread damage’ in the region, with buildings, roads and other transport and communications infrastructure ‘severely damaged’.
Other areas in Nepal, including Chitwan, have also been affected, it said.
Hundreds of tourists, including 33 Britons, are among those still missing following the disaster early on Wednesday morning.
“The authorities have warned of the risk of further flooding,” said the FCDO. “The situation may change rapidly. If you are travelling in the region, follow the advice of the Nepalese government and local authorities and be alert to the changing situation.
“The Nepalese government has established a toll-free emergency Nepalese language number, 1234, and a dedicated hotline 1144 accessible in Nepal.”

Mass evacuations of the affected region have been ordered due to fears that an overflowing lake could cause further widespread flooding.
