The Foreign Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice for the United Arab Emirates, warning British nationals to prepare for ‘possible flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions’ as regional tensions escalate.
The FCDO updated its advice on Friday afternoon (24 July), following recent strikes and retaliatory attacks involving Iran and US-linked targets.
The situation remains ‘unpredictable’, with a risk of further escalation across ‘a number of locations across the region’, said the FCDO.
Travellers in the area are being urged to keep plans under review, as disruption could occur at short notice.
The statement warned: “There is a risk of more attacks and unforeseen escalation in the region.
“Before the ceasefire, the Iranian regime had stated its intention to target locations associated with the US and Israel, including organisations, businesses, facilities, and institutions.”
The FCDO also advises travellers to monitor media updates, follow local authority guidance and avoid areas near military or security sites.
The update added that travellers should be prepared to take shelter if required, with the ‘greatest risk from falling debris caused by intercepts’.
It follows the FCDO advising last week against all but essential travel to Bahrain and warning travellers heading to Turkiye, Jordan, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia of the risk of further attacks and ‘unforeseen escalation’ in the region.
Meanwhile Dubai has launched a new incentive scheme to stimulate demand, offering residents rewards worth more than £600 to bring visitors to the emirate.
The ‘Dubai Invite’ programme, run by the Department of Economy and Tourism, allows UAE residents to nominate up to five friends or family members to visit between 20 July and 31 October, unlocking benefits worth up to AED3,000 (£610).
Perks include discounted hotel stays, such as 45% off at the Melia Desert Palm, two-for-one dining offers at the 305 on Palm Jumeirah, and attraction tickets like free entry to Aquventure World. Benefits are valid until 31 December 2026.
The scheme is open to any UAE resident aged 18+ with a valid Emirates ID, while visitors must be non-residents arriving on a tourist visa.
The campaign comes amid disruption to flights and travel confidence, with Visit Dubai urging residents: “You’re their best reason to visit.”
