ABTA has confirmed that Ayrshire-based Frasers Travel, which opened in 1986, has ceased trading.
The family-owned business, run by Fraser and Julie McCallum, organised everything from theatre breaks to long-haul holidays.
A post on its Facebook page from 18 August reads: “We regret to inform you that Frasers Travel Ltd has today ceased trading.
“We would like to thank all our past clients for their loyalty and support.”
The message advised customers with existing bookings have been advised to send details to [email protected]
The agency, based in Saltcoats, was still posting offers – for a Royal Caribbean Cruise and trips to the theatre – less than three hours before it announced it had ceased trading.
A member of staff posted to say that employees were ‘working as normal’ on Tuesday and weren’t told the business was closing until that afternoon.
A financial statement filed at Companies House for the year to the end of April 2025 flagged concern about the agency’s ability to continue as a going concern.
It said the ongoing impact of the COVID pandemic had led to a ‘significant’ drop in demand and an increase in cancellations.
Whilst the agency posted a ‘small profit’ in 2025, the statement said there was ‘a material uncertainty that may cast significant doubt upon the company’s ability to continue as a going concern’.
It said it had received Government Coronavirus support, had increased share capital and was considering a change of ownership ‘as part of a strategic plan to provide a long-term recovery’.
“Although it is not certain that these efforts will be successful, management has determined that the actions that it has taken are sufficient to mitigate the uncertainty,” it said at the time.
