EasyJet has switched today’s flights from London Southend to Gatwick because the airport remains closed following Sunday’s crash.
Police say all four people on board a small aircraft died when it crashed just after take-off around 4pm on 13 July.
Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin, who is overseeing the investigation, said the Civil Aviation Authority ‘has put in place a significant air exclusion zone surrounding the crash site’.
London Southend will remain closed on Tuesday morning (14 July) and a spokesperson told Travel Gossip it will remain so until further notice.
EasyJet said: “As London Southend airport remains closed three return flights departing this morning will operate to and from Gatwick today. Three return flights this afternoon will also be operated from Gatwick and only return to an alternative airport should the airport continue to be closed.
“We continue to work closely with the airport to understand when operations are able to resume and advise any customers travelling today to check our Flight Tracker for the most up to date info on their flights.
“Our thoughts remain with those affected by the tragic accident.”
The Chief Superintendent said the aircraft had landed at Southend earlier on Sunday and took off bound for the Netherlands.
“Shortly after take-off, it got into difficulty and crashed within the airport boundary,” he said.
“Sadly, we can now confirm that all four people on board died.
“We’re working to officially confirm their identities. At this stage, we believe all four are foreign nationals.”
