EasyJet holidays reaches 3,000 Certified Sustainable hotels as uptake grows

EasyJet holidays has expanded its portfolio of Certified Sustainable hotels to more than 3,000 beach and city properties.

Almost one million customers have stayed in a certified hotel over the past year and the operator said the milestone reflects progress towards its goal of making more sustainable holidays a mainstream choice for customers.

Over the last 12 months, easyJet holidays reported a 21% increase in the number of customers choosing Certified Sustainable hotels. The operator started its sustainability accreditation in August 2022.

It said its customers staying in certified properties recorded satisfaction scores 4.5 percentage points higher than the overall average.

The company has also introduced a new core sustainability metric focused on the proportion of outbound customers staying in certified hotels, shifting emphasis from increasing the number of available properties to driving customer uptake.

As part of its wider sustainability programme, easyJet holidays has delivered training aligned with the Global Sustainability Tourism Council to more than 100 hotel partners during the past year and continued to increase the number of independently verified hotels in its portfolio.

To support sales, the operator has introduced a dedicated Certified Sustainable deals page, enhanced certification filters across its consumer website and trade portal, and increased engagement with high-volume hotel partners to encourage certification.

Chief Operating Officer Matt Callaghan said: “As a leading tour operator, we have a responsibility not only to offer more sustainable choices, but to help more customers choose them.

“Reaching more than 3,000 Certified Sustainable hotels is an important milestone, and with nearly one million easyJet holidays customers staying in a Certified Sustainable hotel in the last year, we’re demonstrating that more sustainable travel is becoming increasingly mainstream.

“What’s more, sustainability and quality can go hand in hand, as shown by Certified Sustainable hotels scoring 4.5 percentage points higher than average.

“While we’re proud of the progress we’ve made, we’re focused on going further by continuing to invest in our hotel partners, building industry capability and making it easier for customers to make informed choices.”
