Disruption warning over weekend train strike in Italy

Passengers face disruption this weekend when a 24-hour train strike comes into effect across Italy.

Workers for state-owned operator Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), which includes Trenitalia, Trenord and Trenitalia Tper, and private company Italo will walk out from 9pm on Saturday 25 January.

Regional and long-distance trains will be affected, with the overall level of disruption expected to vary by region, city and operator. Passengers have been warned rail connections to and from Fiumicino Airport in Rome may be delayed or cancelled.

Trenitalia said its services ‘may experience cancellations or changes’ although it plans to run some long-distance services. But it warned there may be ‘service variations’ before and after the strike.
