Cuba’s electricity grid was knocked out yesterday when the country was hit by a Category 3 hurricane.
It’s the second time that the Caribbean island has been plunged into darkness in recent weeks.
Last month, the national grid collapsed due to a combination of infrastructure problems, high demand and a lack of fuel. Attempts to restore power were hampered by Hurricane Oscar.
Hurricane Rafael slammed into Cuba on Wednesday, bringing winds of up to 115mph.
State-run TV reported the entire population of 10 million people was without power after winds brought down trees and power lines.
Havana and Varadero airports, in the worst-hit west of the island, remain closed until Thursday afternoon.
