Cruise lines forced to skip Lisbon due to port strike

At least two cruise lines have cancelled calls at Lisbon this week due to a strike by port workers.

The National Union of Port Administration Workers in Portugal will strike on Thursday and Friday.

Ambassador’s Ambience will skip its call at the Portuguese capital on Thursday. The ship will spend the day at sea instead. It will stop at La Coruña in Spain on Friday.

Posting on its Facebook page, Ambassador said: “We sincerely apologise for any disappointment caused by this change and thank you for your understanding.”

MSC Cruises’ Divina has cancelled its call at Lisbon on Friday. A spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, we have been forced to cancel our stopover at Lisbon on Friday, 24 October due to a strike by port workers. As a result, the ship will now dock in Malaga (on Thursday) and remain in port until Friday night to enable guests to embark.

“We have directly contacted all guests who have been impacted, and we are providing assistance.

“A complimentary coach service from Lisbon to Malaga for embarking passengers has been arranged. The same support will be provided to disembarking passengers from Malaga to Lisbon.

“Guests scheduled to embark will be given the option to transfer their booking to any other cruise on our website free of charge or cancel and receive a full refund.”

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Sky is also due to call at Lisbon on Thursday. Travel Gossip has contacted the line for a comment.
