Catalonia issues travel warning as thunderstorms cause flight disruption

Disruption is continuing at Barcelona El Prat Airport today following severe thunderstorms and flooding across Catalonia.

A number of flights were still showing delays on the airport’s website this morning, after almost 250 flights were cancelled at Barcelona on Saturday (3 October), according to Flightradar24. Some other flights were delayed by more than four hours.

The wider transport network has also been affected by the storms, with disruption reported on local trains, roads and the Barcelona metro.

The Catalan government issued a further alert today (5 October) warning of torrential rain until 2pm and advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay away from rivers, streams and ravines. The forecast for thunderstorms continues into tomorrow.

Girona Airport has also been affected by the severe weather, with delays and cancellations over the weekend.
