CAA cuts red tape for ATOL holders

ATOL holders will no longer have to reissue agency agreements each time the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) updates its Agency Terms, the regulator has confirmed.

The change takes effect on 1 April 2027, and ATOL holders will need to be ready to update and reissue their agency agreements from that date.

After this one-off update, future changes to the Agency Terms will apply automatically on publication.

The CAA still encourages ATOL holders to update the wording of their existing agency agreements as soon as practical.

It considers best practice to be updating agreements within six months of the revised terms being published.

CAA Head of Regulatory Assurance Geoff Wingfield said: “This is a practical change that will reduce unnecessary regulatory burden for travel providers. While ATOL holders will need to update their agency agreements on 1 April 2027, it removes the requirement to repeat that process every time Agency Terms are amended in future.

“By making future updates simpler and more efficient, we’re reducing administration for businesses while maintaining the consumer protections that sit at the heart of the ATOL scheme.”

ATOL holders have been contacted today (2 November) by the CAA with further information about the changes.
