Britannia guests who missed ports due to ‘technical issue’ to be compensated

Passengers on P&O Cruises’ ship Britannia are to receive compensation after their ship was forced to skip ports because of a ‘technical issue’ on a New Year sailing in the Caribbean.

Britannia diverted to its homeport in Barbados following a power outage, missing a planned call in Aruba on 3 January and a two-day call in St Lucia.

Passengers were originally told no compensation would be provided and they should go via their insurance company if they wanted to make a claim for missed ports of call.

However, P&O Cruises has now said passengers are entitled to a Future Cruise Credit as a goodwill gesture.

In a letter, P&O Cruises said: “Thank you for choosing to sail with us on Britannia in the Caribbean. We recognise, however, that your holiday was not the experience you were expecting, nor was it the one we would wish for you, or the standard we set for ourselves.

“The issues that affected your cruise fell short of our usual high standards, and for that we are very sorry.”

The FCC is available from 20 January 2026 on bookings made by 31 December 2026.  Passengers must sail by 31 December 2027.
