Birmingham hopes to avoid repeat of last year’s queues amid its busiest Easter

Birmingham is preparing for its busiest Easter on record, with 650,000 passengers set to travel through the airport during the two-week break.

Despite a 15% rise in customers year-on-year, Birmingham is hoping to avoid a repeat of last year’s queues.

Last summer, crowds of holidaymakers snaked around the airport’s entrance with some missing flights, and TUI advising passengers to arrive four hours before long-haul departure times.

This came after Birmingham became the first major UK airport to install new CT scanners.

Since then, the airport announced a series of new investments to help enhance customer service and avoid the queues seen at the airport last summer.

Two new passenger screening lanes have been installed. An additional outbound baggage carousel has also been installed and an immigration area has also been expanded and reconfigured.

Terminal Operations Director of Birmingham Airport Al Titterington, said: “We are preparing for our busiest Easter holiday getaway on record with many passengers jetting off to enjoy the spring holidays.

“Since last Easter we have invested in our security area to ensure ease and simplicity for our customers travelling through the airport.

“Our security hall that opened in June last year, was further complemented with a further two screening machines, enabling large electricals to stay in hand luggage, but more importantly allows liquids in containers under 100ml to remain in bags too.

“Our colleagues will be on hand in the terminal to assist customers on their way through the airport. However, we encourage all to look at our website for the latest guidance on travel.”
