Birmingham Airport will introduce twice-weekly direct flights to Toronto next summer.
Air Transat will operate the new service from 23 June to 23 October 2027, with flights departing every Wednesday and Saturday.
The route will be Birmingham Airport’s first direct service to Canada. The airport has no direct flights to the US, while its only existing direct transatlantic route is to Cancún, Mexico.
The Canadian airline will operate the route to Toronto Pearson International Airport using Airbus A321LR aircraft.
Through Air Transat’s partnership with Porter Airlines, passengers will also be able to connect to other Canadian destinations, including Vancouver, Montréal, Calgary and Edmonton.
Birmingham Airport Business & Travel Trade Executive Tobias Morter said: “Whether it’s a city break in Toronto, a visit to Niagara Falls, a Canadian Rockies adventure, or a multi-centre holiday exploring different parts of the country, the new service opens up plenty of opportunities for agents to create memorable itineraries.
“The route also offers a convenient option for customers visiting friends and relatives, with established demand for travel between the Midlands and Canada.
“For Birmingham Airport, the announcement marks another important step in expanding its international network, giving passengers across the Midlands even more choice when travelling further afield.
“With direct flights, onward connections across Canada, and plenty of itinerary inspiration, summer 2027 is shaping up to be an exciting opportunity to sell Canada from Birmingham Airport.”
Transat Chief Revenue Officer Sebastian Ponce added: “The launch of our new Birmingham–Toronto service reflects Air Transat’s commitment to making Canada more accessible from key regions across the UK.
“Travellers across the Midlands will benefit from a convenient non-stop flight to Toronto, together with onward connections to major destinations across Canada through our partnership with Porter Airlines. Birmingham is a natural addition to our UK network, and we look forward to welcoming our first passengers in June 2027.”
