British Airways will launch flights to Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar from London Gatwick next summer, as part of an expansion of its long-haul network
The seasonal route will operate three times a week from 29 May to 31 October 2027, flying first to Kilimanjaro before continuing to Zanzibar.
Flights will operate on a Boeing 777 with Club World, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller cabins. Fares will start from £849 return, including taxes and fees.
BA Chief Planning and Strategy Officer Neil Chernoff said: “We’re excited to be launching flights to two exceptional new destinations that showcase the very best of Tanzania.
“These new routes strengthen our footprint in East Africa and open the door to some of the world’s most extraordinary travel experiences.”
In May, it was announced Air Tanzania was planning to launch direct flights between the UK and Tanzania in July 2027.
The airline’s CEO Peter Ulanga told the Africa Travel & Tourism Association (ATTA) that flights will operate from London Gatwick to Kilimanjaro International Airport, as well as Zanzibar.
He told the trade body there will be a ‘minimum’ of three flights a week, driving tourism to Tanzania.
BA’s Tanzania announcement forms part of a wider expansion of its long-haul network for summer 2027.
The carrier said it will increase capacity to Latin America by 25% compared with summer 2026, measured by available seat kilometres (ASK).
BA is reshuffling its South American routes, with Buenos Aires becoming a daily non-stop service from Heathrow instead of operating via Rio de Janeiro. The flight will then continue to Santiago, Chile, while Rio will be served by its own dedicated daily service.
In addition, BA is making its Heathrow-San José, Costa Rica service year-round, increasing summer flights to Cape Town from seven to 10 per week, and adding a daily second service to Las Vegas.
