British Airways is among several major airlines that have suspended flights to Tel Aviv, following a Houthi missile strike near Ben Gurion Airport last weekend.
The Houtis claimed responsibility for the attack, on Sunday 4 May, adding the airport was ‘no longer safe for air travel’. Flights were cancelled immediately afterwards, although the airport has since said it is operating as normal.
However, BA has suspended flights from 7 May until 15 June, although passengers with BA tickets can travel on EL AL flights.
BA said: “The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our priority.
“We continually monitor operating conditions and have made the decision to suspend our flights to and from Tel Aviv, up to and including 14 June. We’ve apologised to our customers for the inconvenience.”
The Independent reports Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and LOT have cancelled flights up to and including 11 May. Swiss International Air Lines, airBaltic, ITA Airways and Ryanair have all cancelled flights are cancelling flights until 11 May.
Air India suspended Tel Aviv flight operations until 8 May and Air Europa suspended its services until today (9 May).
Two weeks ago, Virgin Atlantic cancelled plans to restart its Heathrow-Tel Aviv service.
The carrier had been expected to resume the route in October 2025, after suspending operations to Israel in October 2023.
The airline will still operate a codeshare with Israeli airline EL AL.
