British Airways has suspended flights to Doha until Thursday 26 June after Qatar closed its airspace ahead of an Iranian missile attack on a US military base near the country’s capital yesterday.
Hamad International Airport in Doha was closed for eight hours on Monday evening, leading to hundreds of planes being diverted or cancelled. They included BA flight BA123 from London Heathrow and a Qatar Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner from London Gatwick, which was on its descent into Doha when it was diverted to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. Another Qatar Airways flight, from Birmingham, was also diverted to Riyadh.
Airspace reopened in the early hours of Tuesday morning (24 June) but BA said it is keeping the situation under review.
A BA spokesperson told Travel Gossip: “Safety is always our highest priority and following the latest developments, we have suspended flights to and from Doha up to and including Wednesday 25 June.
“We are contacting our customers to advise them of their options and will keep the situation under review.”
BA’s services to Dubai are running as normal.
BA is offering a flexible booking policy for customers who have booked services to Dubai and Doha and are due to travel between now and 29 June 2025. Passengers can rebook onto a later flight up to and including 13 July 2025.
A Qatar Airways spokesperson told Travel Gossip: “Following the temporary closure of Qatari airspace on 23 June, Qatar Airways is now making progress in restoring its schedule with possible disruptions until 26 June 2025.
“Those who wish to change their travel dates may do so without paying a fee until 15 July 2025. Customers who no longer wish to travel can opt to receive a refund of the unused value of their tickets, without any cancellation fee being applied.”
